Medical Treatments

Many people with CFS find some relief from using medical treatments, although some don't and some have negative reactions. It is outside the scope of this booklet to discuss individual treatments. Here we discuss an approach to the world of medicine we have found useful.

Don't Get Overly Excited

Try not to expect too much from any particular treatment. (We know it's hard to contain your excitement.) If there were a miracle cure, you would surely know about it. Medicine is just one part of an overall approach to getting healthier.

Know Your Reasons

Many people think if they're not taking a new medicine, they're not trying hard enough to get healthy. This could not be further from the truth. Medicine is one part of an overall approach to getting healthier.

Beware Large Claims

The more a medicine claims to help, the less likely it is to help at all. Any medicines that claim to cure you or relieve you of all your symptoms should be treated with an extra dose of suspicion.

Don't Give Up on All Medicine

Some people become so frustrated with their medicines that they decide to stop taking any medicine at all. While this is understandable, there is no reason to deny yourself a useful painkiller or a long-trusted sleep-enhancer so long as they help you.
