The Massachusetts
Association of Hazardous Materials Technicians announced the
dates for their 17th annual training conference. The
conference will be held September 17 – 19, 2008 at the Radisson
Hotel Plymouth Harbor, 180 Water Street, Plymouth, MA. Tel.
508-747-4900. This year MAHMT has entered into a partnership
with the U.S. EPA, Region 1 – Boston to provide training in the
areas of hazardous materials emergency planning and preparedness
in addition to training for first responders over the three day
event. The conference will include general sessions each
morning, followed by breakout sessions covering a variety of
topics.
Planning sessions
under development include: Understanding EPCRA; Basic LEPC/ REPC
workshop; LEPC Certification Process; Processing/ Utilizing Tier
2 Data; Exercising Local Plans; Toxicology; Hazard Assessment;
Preparing Local Plans, CAMEO for Planners & First Responders;
ALOHA, 2008 Emergency Response Guidebook, and more…
Sessions under
development for emergency responders include: CSX Railroad
Training Train; Chemistry Refresher; Rapid Radiological
Response; Response to Incidents Involving Anhydrous Ammonia;
Reading the Hazmat Incident; Monomers & Polymerization; Toxic
Industrial Chemicals in WMD; Response to Compressed Gas Cylinder
Emergencies; Response to Lab Incidents; Pesticide Emergencies;
Hazmat Safety Officer, and more…
This conference
will be of great value to local hazardous materials planners,
members of LEPCs/ REPCs, local officials and first responders.
Many of the sessions are directed to hazardous materials
technicians, and members of the State Regional Haz-Mat Response
Teams as well.
The conference is
sponsored by: MAHMT, The MA Emergency Management Agency (MEMA),
and State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), as well as the
MA Dept. of Fire Services Hazardous Materials Response Program
and MA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Assistance
is also provided by the MA State Firefighting Academy. A special
room rate of $111 per night is being offered for conference
attendees at the Radisson. Mention the conference when making
